Yang ijo-ijo kenyal trus dalemnya ada gula merahnya? Bukann.. itu mah klepon, ini colophon. Udah lumayan lama sih gue sering liat istilah ini dipake di beberapa weblog dan website tapi ngga tau artinya, dugaan gue sih kayaknya masih sepupu ama “about me” gitu… mereun. Kebetulan tadi lagi ada waktu browsing-browsing, dan akhirnya rasa penasaran berminggu-minggu ini terjawab, colophon itu…

Ada yang bilang asalnya dari nama kota Colophon, kota kuno jaman Yunani kuno dulu di Asia-minor yang kaya akan pohon pinus dan menghasilkan colophony / rosin (sejenis damar?). Tapi ada juga yang lebih menyimpulkan asal kata colophon itu dari kolophon, bahasa yunani yang artinya “puncak” atau “final touch”, yang kemudian menjadi kosakata latin kuno “colophon”. Apapun asalnya, dunia publishing menggunakan istilah ini untuk memberi nama bagian buku yang berisi informasi atau deskripsi bagaimana buku itu dibuat. Lengkapnya:

Perkembangan selanjutnya, istilah colophon juga digunakan di dunia web , dan tidak jauh beda dengan dunia publishing.. colophon berisi informasi tentang tools, sistem dan resouce lain (beserta credit kepada semua yang terkait) yang digunakan untuk membuat website tersebut. Lengkapnya:

Next evolution of the usage this word is when colophon is also used as web terminology , and not too much different than the publishing world, in the web this word refer to information about tools, system and resources (with all the credits) used to create the website.

When used in reference to Web sites, a colophon is a description of the tools, systems and resources used to create the Web site and keep it operational. The colophon serves to acknowledge and give credit to all the resources that combined to produce the specific site. A site typically will devote a separate page to detailing its colophon. A colophon can include but is not limited to any software and hardware that was used to create the site, the type of server that the site is running off of, the types of scripts that are running the site and the programming languages of the scripts, the operating system the site is based on, any industry standards that the site adheres to, when the site was launched and how often it is updated, the names of the administrators of the site or the editorial team that provides its content and any other acknowledgments the site’s administrators want to share with its visitors.( WebOPedia.com )

Jadi sebenarnya bukan untuk menggantikan istilah “about me” kali yah? Lebih ke penjelasan teknis maupun non-teknis mengenai tools, resource, metode dan goals (kegunaan maupun tujuan dibuatnya web) mengenai web yang bersangkutan. Contoh penggunaan colophon bisa dilihat di webstandards project’s colophon atau zeldman’s colophon.. Kalau sempat lain kali gue bikin colophon juga kali yah.
