Wordpress and CMS Philosophy

Philosophic quest evolve through the ages since Plato, Descartes, to Sartre.. and it was never ending process since human minds are always starving for the answer. And that exactly was happened in the world of content management system. A quest to find perfect cms will always continue in the same direction with internet and programming evolution. The ideal definition of cms has many point of view. just like Locke’s or Hume’s empiric in philosophy, commercial cms has clear measurred classifications for ultimate cms, for commercial cms supporters.. price shows the quality, Vignette is one of it’s example.

But on the other side, there were non commercial cms supporters as there were rationalist philosoper like Descrates or Plato in philosophy, in their mind the need for good cms but affordable (even free if possible) is makes sense, the need for open source kind of software are include in this side. But also in this side, there were grey area which should be seen carefully with eyeglasses, the eyeglasses name is license. And this is where my problem starts, my favorite cms with blog genre (pMachine and MovableType) eventough released with it’s source code and free to download, they had never been a free software, they’re using their own license.. not GPL License. So the free offer (which is one of the reason why I choose ‘em beside the complete functions that they had) just like a teasing restaurant’s welcome drink, and I can’t continue my dinner because the pricelist on the menu are a bit concerning me. I can order a glass of water for free, but we go to the restaurant for order some dinner aren’t we? So the Freedom 0 article by Mark Pilgrim is an enlightenment for me which affected in my decision in migrating to WordPress, and in the same time.. recently I have a big passion to finish my weblog renovation, which has been delayed for months. And there’ll be someone expert on WordPress to be asked for help anyway.
